BTDT Blog: Status Update

There is a slew of exciting things happening in my life right now!  So many exciting things, in fact, that I’ve been knocked off of my regular writing schedule for this blog and it has caused me to reconsider its purpose.

One of the biggest things I’m excited about is the blog that I launched as a side project back in January.  It’s titled “What Families Do” and the driving focus of the blog is Intentional Family.  Tim Boettger and I are maintaining a six-posts-per-week pace and inviting others to contribute as well.  As you can see, the What Families Do blog has become my main focus.

So with the new passion for writing exclusively about family, I had to ask myself, “Is it worth keeping the BTDT blog going?”

Yes.  It is.  But it will be different than it was before.

Here are are the values for maintaining this blog:

Free Space to Write – I used to think that this blog had to focus on one of three things: Ministry, Family, or Leadership.  Now, the benefit of this blog is to simply write freely.  I want to share my opinions, experiences, learning, and fun.

Place to Compile Notes - I take a lot of notes.  Sermon Notes, Conference Notes, and Book Reviews.  It makes sense to me to have them accessible through a blog for easy reference.

Space to Reflect and Grow – It’s fun to write about current happenings and then reflect on the content.  Another benefit of maintaining this blog is to continue to become a better communicator by learning how to write my thoughts.

It’s exciting to move ahead with these three values in place.  Thanks for subscribing and being a part of the community.

Ready for Rules

It is in my nature to challenge rules.  I’m not sure what it is, but I have a desire to question, pry, and pick at rules and the way that things are done.  Of course, this has led to frustration and rebellion many times over.  There are times when a question to authority is healthy, yet other times when it is out of line.

God has reason for rules and instruction:

Psalm 19:7-10
The instructions of the LORD are perfect,
reviving the soul.
The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy,
making wise the simple. The commandments of the LORD are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are clear,
giving insight for living. Reverence for the LORD is pure,
lasting forever.
The laws of the LORD are true;
each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold,
even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb.

When we think of the law, we often think of something that keeps us from having fun.  But there we see the opposite – law that revives us, makes us wise, gives joy to the heart, gives light to the eyes, warns us, and rewards us.

That’s because God’s laws are guidelines and lights for our path, rather than chains on our hands and feet.  They point at danger and warn us, then point at success and guide us.

The #1 Priority of Developing Others

Never work alone.

If you want to pass something on to others, be sure to take someone with you.

Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.
-Acts 15:40-41

Your tendency will be to lecture or have question and answer sessions to teach followers.  But the best way for someone to learn is be along side someone, perfecting the craft, so that they may be able to pass it along as well.

Question: What is something you are doing that you would like to pass along? Click here to reply.
