The attendant at the gas station today had a tattoo on her arm and I asked her what it was. She showed me and responded, “It’s a quote: Well behaved women seldom make history.” I actually chuckled right when she finished sharing that with me. I mean, there’s a little truth in every bit of kidding, right? She continued to tell me that it was a quote from some lady and she really liked it when she first heard it. Although I wanted to stand at the counter and go deeper into what she thinks about the quote, it didn’t happen. I hurried on with my day as the next customer arrived.
After googling the quote, I found that it was from Laurel Thatcher Ulirch and she actually wrote a book by the same title. What are your thoughts about that statement? Do women need to have a mean streak and a fight to be heard?
